National Park Week is here, and there may be no better way to wrap up summer than by getting outside, hitting the road and exploring one of America’s incredible national parks.
Taking place August 22–30, 2026 – this year’s National Park Week celebrates the theme “Celebrate America’s Story,” honoring our nation’s 250th anniversary and the places, landscapes and stories that have helped shape it.
And there’s another reason to celebrate: August 25 marks the National Park Service’s 110th birthday, with entrance fees waived for U.S. citizens and residents at participating National Park Service sites.
More Than 400 Places to Explore
The National Park Service protects more than 400 sites across the country, from iconic national parks and breathtaking landscapes to historic sites, monuments, recreation areas and more.
Whether you’re planning a major RV road trip or looking for somewhere new to explore close to home, National Park Week is a great excuse to get out there.
Make even more of your visit by checking the park calendar before you arrive. Many parks offer ranger-led programs and tours that provide a deeper look at the history, wildlife, geology and culture of the area. Traveling with kids? Look for Junior Ranger programs, which give younger visitors a fun, hands-on way to learn about the places they’re exploring.
The National Park Service app is another valuable road-trip companion, with information for hundreds of National Park Service sites, including interactive maps, park amenities, accessibility information, tours and things to do. You can even download content ahead of time for areas where cell service may be limited.
