If you’ve been looking for a great way to revisit your favorite experiences at the campground, these camping recipes are the perfect nostalgic trip. Below, we will show you four amazing camping recipes to bring back your childhood at the campground.
Your Catch of the Day
There’s nothing quite like cooking up your catch of the day after a long day of fishing. We recommend cleaning your fish thoroughly before heating a stick of butter in a pot over your fire. Add the fish to the skillet and cook, browning on both sides—season with salt and pepper in addition to lemon and fresh herbs to your liking. Enjoy with a side of roasted vegetables or rice.
Roasted Hot Dogs and Brats
Obviously, a classic campground recipe is just to cook hotdogs and bratwurst over the campfire. This is a great evening activity for you and the kids to enjoy, and it sure to bring back memories of when you were young. Make sure you bring hot dog buns, ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, and any other toppings you enjoy on your hotdogs and brats.
Foil Packet Dinners of All Kinds
Another classic for cooking around the campfire is to make foil packet dinners. You can pack it full of your favorite vegetables, plenty of butter, salt, and pepper, and then the meat of your choosing. Wrap up the foil packets into little bundles and sit on the fire to cook until your meat is cooked through. Generally, this will take 30 to 45 minutes. Be sure to use tongs to rotate them frequently to avoid burning.
Whether you’re roasting hotdogs, cooking your catch of the day, or creating delicious foil packet dinners for your family, ending the meal with some roasted s’mores is the perfect way to finish the day. You can up your s’mores game by bringing along special marshmallows; some are filled with different stuffing, and there are chocolate-covered graham crackers that can make building your s’more easier. Personally, I recommend cooking chocolate chip cookies instead of graham crackers.
